Fidji Lapios (b. 1990, Paris) lives and works in London. Trained as an architect at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Paris-Malaquais, Paris, completing her Part I, Part II and Part III qualifications between 2013 and 2020, Lapios later redirected her practice towards painting, undertaking the Off-site painting programme at Turps Art School, London, in 2026.
Rooted in magical realism, Lapios’ work displays the timelessness within the landscapes we inhabit, investigating the relationship between a place and its memory and perception, and implies that landscapes are continually reshaped through our never-ending lived experiences.
Whilst drawing upon the traditions of landscape painting, her process is undeniably of today, where she experiments with bright painting mixtures composed of emulsion paints, oils, water, soap, waxes, gessoes, and reflective surfaces. This process paired with luminescent washes and opalescent neon undertones situates the work within a distinctly contemporary visual language.
Lapios’ work questions the reality of landscapes, proposing that instead, places as we know them may be constructed by what we chose to remember: our familiar landscapes represent the relationship we have with our memories and ourselves. A world between presence and absence, at the edge between the real and the magical.
Recent exhibitions include See Through, Group show at Safehouse 1, London; State of Flux, Group show at Cicek Gallery, London; The Never Ending Story Chapter I, Duo-show at Metamorphika Studios and her work was shown at The London Art Fair, London (all 2026). Her first solo exhibition, Last Season, was held at One and a Half, London, in 2023. Her work has been published Juggler's Mistake n°3 (Dec 2025).
